Lonar Crater Lake

Image
We’re all made of stars. That’s what I remind myself of when I look around and just see assholes everywhere. Well, thousands of years ago, a falling star came flying towards the Earth and landed just 150 KMs from my current home. So this Diwali, two of my friends, Mr.Aneesh Ajayan and Mr.Vivek Gupta, and I, decided to visit the place. To see the hole it had left behind. Lonar crater is a lake some 150 KMs from Aurangabad that was formed 52,000 years ago when a meteor struck that place. For the sake of accuracy, you can add or subtract 6,000 years to that figure of fifty-two thousand years. [1] The lake is approx 1.2 KMs in diameter, and the crater is about 1.8 KMs in diameter. It is absolutely circular, as one would expect a crater formed by extra-terrestrial fireballs would be, and is supposedly the third largest crater in the world and the largest in Basalt rock. The other craters in volcanic basalt rock are on the moon of Mars. How’s that for awesome! J The driv

The Cockroach at the Restaurant

This post was written by my dear friend, Mr. Satyajeet Das , who happens to be a part time professor and author when he is not contemplating such awesome stuff. I have borrowed it from his Facebook page so that it can be shared with more people. It's a heart wrenching story about a cockroach who went to his favorite diner for lunch, but found himself amongst cruel people who mistreated him and ripped him of his dignity. Even his old friend, the waiter, deserted him for more opportune friends. So here goes... For my PDP students: While I was in a Restaurant, suddenly a cockroach flew from somewhere and sat on a lady standing a little away from me. She started screaming out of fear. With panic stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach. Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group got cranky to what was happening. The lady finally managed to push the cockroach to another lady in the grou

Pandora's Box, or May Peace Be Upon You

In Greek mythology, there was once a woman called Pandora. In fact, as the story goes, she was the first woman to be created by the Gods. Pandora was given a jar by Zeus and told that she should not open it under any circumstances. The jar, unknown to Pandora, contained all the evils of this world – plagues, diseases, hatred, anger, jealousy, lust, arrogance, and so on - and also at the bottom was hope, the antidote to all those evils. Now there are few temptations worth giving into guiltily that give more pleasure than farting on a leather sofa and perhaps, female curiosity. Well, Pandora too couldn’t help but give in to the temptation and opened the box to see what was inside. Thereupon, out flew all the evils. Pandora, seeing them flying out, panicked and closed the lid back. Hope, being heavier (duh!) was at the bottom and was hence the last in line to get out. When Pandora closed the lid back, she trapped hope inside and only a little bit of it could fly out. Unbeknownst

View Larger Map Dates : 10th June, 2012 to 17th June, 2012 The Dheet-Trekkers :   PP , Manish Kutaula , Khandi, Danish, Upreti , Amit Bisht & yours' truly Dheet7 :  "So what is the secret behind being an expert biker?" Dheet1 : " It’s simple. Just grip the handle firmly, and make sure the bike stays underneath your ass and not the other way round…" How do I find the words to describe this trip of ours? Well, if you’ve ever seen the video of the  headless chicken  on Youtube, you’ll know.  Without our  Sardar , the planner and the shepherd, we were just a bunch of rebels without a clue. But I kid you… The fact is, it was a wondrous trip, immaculately timed (by chance). We not only had our first experience of riding an Enfield in the hills, amidst green valleys and treacherous fog and rain, but we were introduced to a nation that although is considered one of the poorest countries of the world, but where we met some of the most ci
